Rand Paul’s campaign

20 Jul
Perhaps you like Rand Paul, perhaps not.

He’s not libertarian enough for you.  You feel he’s not principled enough.  Too pragmatic.  Maybe even deceptive, too careful.

Could he bring in lots of new people to the libertarian movement?  Ron Paul clearly brought in lots of people who had previously never read Rand or Nozick or Mises.  People who were noticeably more likely to be female, Christian, religious, even Moslem, and more people of color than the libertarians we already knew.  More likely to be more geographically widely distributed than libertarians used to be, when they were mainly found in elite coastal cities or university towns.

Ask yourself whether you think having Rand in the campaign and showing well is good for liberty or libertarian recruitment, even if you are anti-electoral or plan to support Gary Johnson or the LP.

He’s behind and struggling I hear from people in the libertarian corners of the GOP and its vendors, having raised $7 million while many others leading in the polls have raised at least $15 million.  Here’s his latest newsletter:

Saturday, July 18, 2015

Senator Paul has been leading the way on a number of major issues, recently introducing legislation to end sanctuary cities and defund Planned Parenthood. He also traveled to Houston, Texas on Friday, where he was greeted by a packed room with hundreds of supporters.

Senator Paul dominated the Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers Straw Poll in Hillsboro with almost 40% of the vote. The Straw Poll has long been viewed as a barometer of where the Granite State’s grassroots voters are leaning. This is just the latest poll that shows Senator Paul has what it takes to win the nomination and take on Hillary Clinton. We look forward to building on this momentum in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for the next edition of the Rand Paul for President Weekly Newsletter.
