$43 Million gas stations

13 Nov

Two news stories from the past several days tell us everything we need to know about the critical purpose of the Our America Initiative.

First, Congress and the White House — Republicans and Democrats — got together to raise the nation’s debt limit and give themselves free rein to run up the national debt for another two years, a time frame that conveniently gets them past the 2016 election.

One of the major justifications the politicians used for feeding their big spending habit was a purported need for essential military spending. In fact, the “deal” they came up with includes giving the Pentagon an additional $32 billion in “contingency” funds — on top of an $80 billion increase in other spending.

At the same time, we learn that the same Pentagon that so desperately needs billions more for “contingencies” somehow managed to blow $43 million on a single gas station in Afghanistan. But the politicians would have us believe the world as we know it will come to an end if they don’t give the Defense Department more money.

Will the budget ever be balanced and the $18.5 trillion national debt brought under control if this kind of insanity continues? Of course not.

Yet, no one in Congress or certainly in the White House is proposing or advocating anything that will seriously disrupt the business-as-usual that has brought us to the brink of financial disaster.

Our America worked with several other national organizations to oppose the budget deal — but it wasn’t enough to deter the big government addicts in Washington, DC. We have to do more.

That’s where you come in. The Our America Initiative has hundreds of thousands of supporters and followers, but turning that audience into activists requires funding. Your contribution of $10, $25, $50, $100 or more provides the tools we need to make the messages of liberty, small government and less spending heard by the politicians.

And the past several days have reminded us just how important those messages are. Please go to Our America today and make yourself heard. I’m counting on you — and liberty needs your help.

Thank you! Keep fighting!

Gov. Gary Johnson
Honorary Chairman
