DC’s political culture – it’s not only Ann Coulter who wants to drown Libertarians

5 Oct
Ann Coulter famously wrote a column last month advocating drowning Libertarians.  DC’s Columbia Heights Day proves itself far more right wing than Ann Coulter.
They don’t just want to drown us.  They also want to privatize streets and sidewalks for the exclusive use of DC’s PAC funded political ruling class.
I think there is a Putin booth.
I’m sure this is a nice enough person, but attempting to sell me a booth space might have been less …bigoted …and more profitable.  I guess those donations that came in last week will buy ad space in the HillRagetc. instead.  It’s odd that they think renting booths entitles them to do anything more than say who can set up a booth.

I wonder if I am allowed to wear a button or tell people my name if they ask if I stop in to buy lunch?

Subject: Urgent. Reply requested: An invitation for Mr. Bruce Majors to be a dunk tank participant in exchange for a full-day, free flyering at the Columbia Heights Day Festival
To: Columbia Heights Day

I do understand but you probably shouldn’t put things like that in writing

It’s too close to saying people can not speak freely on a public sidewalk unless a PAC has given them money to buy a booth

Sounds great Bruce.
Just a tiny request though: We would love to have you as a spectator at the festival and have you partake in the festivities, but out of respect to all politicians who have paid for a vendor booth, and those signing up for a dunk tank to distribute materials – we urge you to not distribute any campaign materials – unless you are a vendor or dunkable of course. Thank you for understanding.
Please keep us posted in regards to the dunk tank, and look forward to having you there.

My name is M– P—-r, a long-term resident of Columbia Heights who is part of the volunteer board of directors of the Columbia Heights Day Initiative, a local, independent grassroots 501(c )(3) nonprofit organization that presents the Columbia Heights Day Festival every year. Columbia Heights Day is an annual community festival that celebrates the bustling neighborhood of Columbia Heights, and is a perfect chance for politicians to meet their constituents. It is a great fun-filled day for all ages, packed with a variety of activities, music & dance performances, and showcases the local businesses! This year it is taking place on October 11th and we are expecting more than 5,000 people in attendance from the local area.

I am writing you today to invite you to be a dunk tank participant in exchange for a full day, free flyering at our event (11am-6pm). We are requesting 1 hour of your time in the dunk tank, and all proceeds collected from the dunk tank will go towards the Harriet Tubman Elementary School. We think this would be a great opportunity for the Bruce Majors Campaign to come out and meet and speak with constituents – and be part of the festival day for a good cause in a fun way.  If you are interested in being a participant, please let us know of your availability during the day. Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful day. Best Regards, M– P– Secretary/ sColumbia Heights Day Initiative 3400 11th St. NW #200

Lifestyles of the tax predator ruling class – IRS chief John Koskinen

11 Jul

Chief IRS prevaricator John Koskinen lives on Redwood Terrace NW in the upper middle class Colonial Village neighborhood, in the North Portal Estates section favored by high level fat ‘crats, in a house Zillow estimates to be worth $1.8 million.  Though he seems to have persuaded the local DC tax authorities to assess him at only $1.3 million.

Back in December last year he hosted an event at his home for Mayor Gray, DC’s incumbent Mayor who lost in the Democratic primary because of an ongoing investigation that he took $700,000 in illegal contributions from a single real estate developer.

Koskinen previously worked in the DC government and as a CEO at Freddie Mac, the government sponsored enterprise implicated in the housing crisis. His wife of 50 years, Patricia Salz Koskinen, is a retired professor of education who taught at and earned her PhD from the University of Maryland.

Charges against Maryland resident Robert Small, father of two children who attend the public schools about which he is asking questions, have been dropped.

How many parents, voters, citizens, or taxpayers will ask questions when the State attempts to humiliate them, physically harm them, and subject them to arrest and charges of 10 years in prison, unless it deigns in its mercy to drop the charges?

This is one of the best arguments against gun prohibition.  With government agents breaking into people’s homes, killing their pets, and physically assaulting them at town halls, they need to be worrying that we are all armed.

The claim was that he had not submitted a question in advance, as was required.  One can easily see how that protocol is used by the educrats to protect themselves from accountability.  How many questions submitted in advance that they did not like did they simply lose? (Remember the exposes of teacher cheating in Freakonomics.)

This “officer” and the educrat panelists should all face justice.

Update:  Since this event occurred, Anne Arundel County in Maryland has passed a law prohibiting having “large” or distracting items at a public forum (like balloons or signs).  Besides the predictable selective enforcement of this against speech they don’t like, one suspects that IPads and other recording devices will be defined as “distracting.”

Diversity fascism

30 May
Most people don’t realize how pervasive the fascism spawned by anti-discrimination laws like Fair Housing go.  Under Bill Clinton, HUD Secretary Roberta Achtenberg issued a list of words realtors, lenders and others involved in the housing market were censored from saying on penalty of losing their licenses and livelihoods and being fined.  (This is what they spent their time on while causing the housing bubble that led to economic collapse.)  The list of dozens of words included such terms as “multicultural” and “bohemian,” anything that might even come close to describing the demographics of a neighborhood.  It also included any terms related to the senses or physical abilities, since it is illegal to discriminate against the differently abled.  One cannot describe a property for sale or rent in terms of its good views or its short walk to amenities.

And you can’t tell other realtors how to make an appointment with any term that might be construed as discriminatory, say against deaf mute realtors.  Here’s a notice to a realtor about a new listing from the local multiple listing system, produced by a corporation that is also subject to diversity censorship.  The offensive terms are highlighted in bold.  It is illegal to suggest that another realtor “call” you.  One assumes the word “contact” will satisfy them, though if they knew their Latin roots we might worry that that does discriminate against realtors missing digits, limbs, or nervous systems.

‘Ex-gay’ London bus advert ban ruled lawful

The adverts were reportedly booked for two weeks

A ban on a Christian group’s proposed bus advert suggesting gay people could be helped to change their sexuality has been ruled as lawful.
The High Court ruled Transport for London’s process in introducing the ban “was procedurally unfair”.
But it ruled TfL was right to ban the Core Issues Trust’s advert because it would “cause grave offence” to those who were gay.
The posters read: “Not Gay! Ex-Gay, Post-Gay and Proud. Get over it!”
They were a response to a bus poster campaign by gay rights group Stonewall, which carried the message: “Some people are gay. Get over it!”
A judge ruled Boris Johnson did not abuse his position as chairman of TfL when he imposed the ban.
The Core Issues Trust said the London mayor was “politically driven” when he intervened to block the ad, which suggested gay people could be helped to “move out of homosexuality”.
Mr Johnson condemned the “gay cure” advert as “offensive to gays” and said it could lead to retaliation against the wider Christian community.

‘Widespread offence’

Mrs Justice Lang ruled TfL’s process in introducing the ban “was procedurally unfair, in breach of its own procedures and demonstrated a failure to consider the relevant issues”.
Stonewall's bus advert

The banned advert was set to mimic Stonewall’s campaign

But that was outweighed by factors against allowing the ad, including that it would “cause grave offence” to those who were gay and was perceived as homophobic, “thus increasing the risk of prejudice and homophobic attacks”, said the judge.
TfL refused to carry the Core Issues Trust advert on the grounds it was “likely to cause widespread or serious offence to members of the public”, and it contained “images or messages which relate to matters of public controversy and sensitivity”.
TfL’s lawyers argued Article 10 did not entitle the trust to advertise “offensive material”.
They said the ban was justified by the need to protect public morals and the right of homosexuals under Article 8 of the convention to respect for their dignity and private lives.
The judge revealed her concern over the issues raised by the case by giving Core Issues permission to appeal to the Court of Appeal.
Mrs Justice Lang said, although she did not think an appeal would succeed, there were “compelling reasons” to allow one to go ahead.
She said the case “concerns interference with the right to freedom of expression which is a matter of such fundamental importance that it merits consideration by the appellant court”.
