“A top aide to Mr. Paul said on Sunday that the senator would mount a lobbying campaign in the House, where senior leaders like Mike Rogers, Republican of Michigan and the chairman of the Intelligence Committee, will face off against a new vanguard of members like Justin Amash, Republican of Michigan, who are opposed to what they see as risky foreign entanglements.”

U.S. has never fully grasped the dilemma inherent in Kipling’s “white man’s burden.” It is going after a tyrannical Muslim regime in Syria slaughtering civilian Muslims but will inevitably be accused of killing Muslims if it kills the tyrants. The human catastrophe in Syria is enormous but this is a no win situation!

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if just one member of the King family had the courage to criticize Obama’s violent foreign policy from the podium today?

PLEASE NOTE: This isn’t directed at anyone in particular, so don’t anyone take offense. But…

We have 70 days until Election Day here in Virginia. I’m hearing a lot from people who say, “Oh, I’ve got this responsibility.” and “Oh, I’ve got that responsibility.” We all have responsibilities. We all work. We all have social lives. I have two jobs and work 60 hours a week.

But I want to tell you guys something, there are 70 days between now and Election Day. It’s going to get here faster than you think. So, I want you to commit to giving a few hours a week to phone bank or go door-to-door. I go on Saturdays when I’m in town (more often than not, now), and I’m going to start phone banking on Tuesday nights.

This is an incredibly important election. I didn’t get involved in politics in Northern Virginia to sit around and talk about getting folks elected.

I’m not going to tag anyone in this, but let’s get out there and do this.

Walmart Needles The Nation About Low-Wage Intern Jobs, Hilarity Ensues

Reason‘s Katherine Mangu-Ward needles the Nation, and Ron Paulista Matthew Coulter Hurt follows to do clean up:

Caitlin Graf, of The Nation, tried to talk to me about Walmarttonight. I replied to her email:

Caitlin –

As someone who worked at Walmart (and was paid well above minimum wage), I’m hardly sympathetic to your organization’s assault on one of the largest employers in the U.S.

I can’t help it if you don’t understand wages, particularly in our nation’s most impoverished communities.

Currently, every other black youth in this nation is unemployed. It is policies like those the Nation pushes (even though they don’t observe the same policies) that has pushed these young would-be employees out into the street.

Please don’t proselytize to me. And please don’t ask me to sympathize with your organization’s hatred for low- and medium-range employees. Read or watch some Milton Friedman, then come talk to me.

Until then, go pound sand.
