The Hornberger Hypothesis

21 Jul

Jacob Hornberger made an interesting and empirically testable hypothesis at The Cato Institute panel on designer drugs this week  (hint, hint Mercatus Center at George Mason University  and George Mason University peeps).

Hornberger noted that alcoholism was high in regimented Soviet states (and I would add that famously sex addiction/obsession was in Soviet Czechoslovakia, as depicted in Milan Kundera’s novel The Incredible Lightness of Being).

The question:  Does compulsory state schooling increase drug addiction?

Has anyone done a survey on substance abuse comparing rates in state schools, the home schooled, the de-schooled, and different types of private or independent schools?
