Shikha Dalmia (Februaey 13, 196? – ) is a senior policy analyst at Reason Foundation, a nonprofit libertarian think tank. Born in New Dehli, and educated at the University of New Dehli, Dalmia lives in Michigan with husband Arthur Melzer, a professor of political philosophy who recently published a book on Leo Strauss and esoteric writing, and with a Siberian huskie named Ambush. She travels frequently to India, where she has a large extended family and to Washington, DC for events held by reason magazine. She spent 2014 in Washington DC and made appearances on panels at the American Enterprise Institute and other forums.
Dalmia says she became a libertarian only after she moved to the U.S. and discovered the works of economists F.A. Hayek and Ludwig von Mises.
Dalmia is a Bloomberg View contributor and a columnist at the Washington Examiner, and she also writes regularly for reason, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and numerous other publications. She considers herself to be a progressive libertarian and an agnostic with Buddhist longings and a Sufi soul. One son, from a previous marriage, is a graduate student in economics. She was a winner of the Bastiat Prize in 2009 which awards $15,000 to journalists who explain, promote, or defend the principles of a free society.
