Sprayable Energy makers hope spray on caffeine will become world’s stimulant of choice
The company is already taking orders online and hopes its product will be available in convenience stores and gas stations nationwide by the end of the year.

Four squirts of Sprayable Energy to a person’s neck delivers about as much caffeine as a small cup of coffee.
The future of energy may be found in a spray bottle.
Harvard undergraduate Ben Yu, 21, and Venture Capitalist Deven Soni, 33, are betting that their new product, Sprayable Energy, will give coffee and energy drinks a run for their money as the world’s stimulant of choice.
The concept is refreshingly simple. Sprayable Energy consists of water, caffeine and an amino acid that helps the body absorb it. Four sprays of the odorless solution on a person’s neck or wrists will provide roughly the same caffeine as a small cup of coffee, but because the product is absorbed through the skin, it comes with less of a jolt and fewer lingering jitters than your average Starbucks coffee or Monster energy drink.
“Our goal is for you not to feel like you’ve had that big caffeine rush, but make you feel more awake,” Soni told the Daily News.
Developed, in part, with money from a “Transforming Tomorrow” fellowship that Yu was awarded by billionaire investor Peter Thiel, the partners have also just raised more than $20,000 on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo in order to launch production.

Venture Capitalist Deven Soni, 33, and Harvard undergraduate Ben Yu, 21, are hoping to have their product for sale in stores by the end of the year.
“We want to raise enough money so that we can fill all of our initial orders,” Soni told the Daily News. “So far, we’re very happy with how things have gone.”
While the company has already begun taking orders online, Soni said he hopes that Sprayable Energy will be available in convenience stores, gas stations and “big box stores” by the end of the year. Each bottle contains 40 doses, and costs $15, making it much more economical than current market alternatives.
Like all pick-me-ups, some people may be tempted to try and abuse spray on energy, but Soni says that doing so won’t be as easy as simple as chugging Red Bull.
“We definitely recommend four or five sprays, and no more than 20 per day,”

Because it is absorbed through the skin, Sprayable Energy does not cause the same jitters or crashes as coffee or energy drinks, its makers say.
Soni said. “Skin has a saturation point, and there are only a few places on the body with the concentration of blood vessels where the product will work best.”
While Sprayable Energy may not entirely replace other daily stimulants, Soni and Yu are betting that they can lure enough consumers who are put off by the adverse physical effects of coffee and the artificial ingredient list in energy drinks to make their company a success.
“We’re not trying to augment behavior, just to make it easier to get what you want,” Soni said.
Soni concedes, however, that Sprayable Energy may not replace all the pleasures derived from the old ways of waking oneself up.
“I use it about two times a day,” Soni said, “but I still drink coffee now and then because I like the taste.”
