Gary Johnson’s cousin stripped of Libertarian delegate credentials

6 May

Gary Johnson’s cousin stripped of Libertarian delegate credentials – Five Missouri delegates to the Libertarian Party nominating convention were stripped of credentials on the second day of voting, after they had participated in selecting Gary Johnson as the presidential candidate. Among the five were one of Gary Johnson’s cousins and GOProud founder Chris Barron. A common practice at Libertarian national conventions is to allow people from out of state to fill unfilled delegate slots. Usually one has to become a dues paying member to that state party and often even attend its state convention and run for delegate before the convention attendees. I have in the past been a Virginia delegate and am this year a Maryland delegate, while not living in either state at the time (though I had before). Missouri delegation chair Dr. Cisse Spragins stripped Barron and the other out of state delegates of credentials on day 2, apparently because they were voting for the “wrong” candidate for Libertarian National Committee chair (which took 6 ballots to resolve). There were also reported problems with the Oregon delegation. More info on Dr. Spragins, who I have not interviewed: http://www.examiner.com/article/two-libertarian-candidates-the-august-primary
