Stop ANCs from driving businesses/jobs from DC.
Recently a small group of people forced a popular Dupont Circle restaurant to close half of its sidewalk cafe, without notice, on a busy holiday weekend.
Our current system allows almost anyone to use Advisory Neighborhood Commissions to shut down businesses and prevent expansions or renovations, thus driving jobs and businesses to the suburbs. We already have nuisance laws and torts available for anyone who can show actual harm to themselves from noise or litter. We don’t need small numbers of people to be able to shut down DC residents’ livelihood without proving a case that they were harmed in court.
